1 Monoprint: Collecting inspiration, materials and ideas
After week 1’s lecture, I felt motivated to do a little research on artists that utilise monoprint / monotype in their practice, especially as I’m not very familiar with this process and what can be achieved with varying stencil, found material and wiping techniques. Below are a few artists work’s that I found interesting and inspirational.

I began collecting materials from my studio to bring for next weeks class to experiment with, I was mostly interested in using papers and organic materials.
~ Recycled brown parcel packing paper with corrugation for texture
~ Khadi paper rounds - I was interested in using whole and partial edges of the rounds to block out large areas of the plate for high contrast first layers, as well as wanting to pick up the soft, almost deckled edge of the paper.
~ Handmade recycled paper by Dodgy Paper for unique softness and texture
~ Scraps of thin, handmade paper with plant materials in it
~ Watercolour and other paper scraps for tearing to create softer edges that a stencil.
~ Some mini fern leaves
To prepare for printing in week 2’s class, I cut out a free hand stencil of a woman’s face at rest and cut out some dead tree silhouette’s from Khadi paper rounds, keeping both the positive’s and negatives to use in my experiments.
